Yarn all around!!

My yarn came!! My yarn came!! Yesterday I was sitting in the studio working on my loom and I saw the UPS truck leaving. I ran over to Lauren's thesis space and asked if she saw it. We both went downstairs to pick up the package. We were like kids with candy!!




This is only my half of the yarn!! When we opened the box, there were cones of yarn stuck in everywhere! It looked like a dump truck had dumped it all in there because there was so much!! It was so much fun!! I also got the natural cone of Tencel that I ordered. It had been on backorder and they just sent it this week. :) I can't believe how much yarn I have!! I can make all kinds of things with this stuff!! I can't wait to start planning projects!!

Sampler? Whaa??

So today has been a pretty horrible day...I've been feeling completely overwhelmed and it makes me want to quit school and hide in a corner and cry. :(

I got some crappy grades in a class (although I'm still averaging a C in the class) But for some reason I let it get to me. I came home and I was so drained and frustrated and sad that I didn't go work out like I normally do. I just crawled into bed. I know...I'm painting a pretty pathetic picture of myself.

Anyway I've been really wanting to weave a blanket ever since I got a loom. I haven't ever woven anything over...maybe 20 inches wide? Something like that. I've been tossing around numbers for calculations for the blanket. I'm still not sure I know what I want to do...Answer? Sample!! So I put on a 6" wide warp sett at 10epi using a combination of 5/2 perle cotton, cotton flake and 6/2 cotton in three different colors of blue. I only wound a warp of 2 yards long so it's pretty short. I got the whole thing on in about an hour and I'm about halfway done weaving it up. Here's some pictures. (I love my camera)



I like the colors, I just think I'm beating it in too tight for the sett. It's probably going to be stiffer than I want. I may cut it off where it is and then weave another sample using a different beat. Not sure yet.

Ben helped make my day much better. :) He was so sweet and helped calm me down by reassuring me that it doesn't matter what grades I get and that my teacher can suck it. *lol* Then we went to dinner which was exactly what I needed. It was a sweet date and lots of fun. So a rotten day turned into a good day.

Daydream

When I graduate, I would love to spend an entire summer just weaving and building up an inventory of things to sell. I would also like to build up the items in my hope chest.
Yes, I'm married. I know. But in Amish culture, the bride-to-be fills her hope chest first with items for married life and after she's married she fills it with clothing and blankets and things for babies. I'd like to make clothes for my children...Is that weird? Probably. Oh well. I'm a weirdo. I can accept it. :) I'd like my entire house to be covered in handwoven items and other things that Ben and I have made. I can't wait for this to happen!! It WILL happen someday. I just hope it happens when we're living in CO. (hopefully!)
A friend in weaving class made this BEAUTIFUL blanket over the weekend. I wish I had TIME to whip out a gorgeous blanket in a weekend! Sigh. Someday I shall. For now I guess I'll just keep day dreaming.

PS: I pitched the idea of a dining room space in an apartment as being my studio space and Ben was completely fine with it. I love him so much! It's wonderful having a husband that fully supports my craft endeavors.
