The knitted scarf.

I have been working on a knitted scarf for the past couple of days. I found a pattern on Ravelry.com that looked really interesting. It was for a vertical striped scarf. Knitting can only be done two ways: In the warp direction or the weft direction. And warp knitting can only be done on a machine...(Or else using loopers on your hands, but that doesn't really count.) Hand knitting is done in the weft direction (The loops connect to the loop next to it) All this to say, generally getting vertical stripes is more complicated. I was pretty excited about my pattern. It was all knit stitch and the chick that wrote it says it comes out to be something like 6 feet long! Big, chunky, warm scarf! Sign me up!

She also said gauge is not important in this project. Well I guess I didn't read the pattern closely enough once I read that. I accidentally used size 11 needles (which are pretty big) instead of size 10 needles (which aren't that much smaller, but it apparently makes a big difference) I knitted the whole thing on a circular needle because you have to cast on something like 250 stitches. It was all bunched up the entire time I was knitting so I had no idea how long it really was...Well...As I was casting off it became apparent that it was longer than six feet....When folded in half, this scarf is the same height as me. Which means it's actually closer to 10 feet long. ACK!!! A 10 foot long scarf?! What am I gonna do with that?!

I may attempt to cut it in half and make two scarves that are slightly less ridiculous in size. :) But I like the pattern other than that. :) Experiments are good...and checking what size needle you're supposed to use for a pattern is even better. Lesson learned.

Knitting again

I feel like my posts have been far less interesting lately. But I don't think knitting is really as interesting to talk about and that's what I'm up to lately. I DID get to buy a whole bunch of yarn though. :D Wooo!! 10 skeins of Simply Soft. I plan on making 10 berets over the next few weeks. I have no idea how long it'll really take. I doubt I'll end up knitting one a day even though I CAN knit one in a day.

I really like this color. :)

When I'm done with a beret, I usually have about 2ish ounces of yarn left which is not enough to make another hat. So I may end up weaving with all my left overs. We'll see. I'm pretty excited about it! I want to be DONE knitting hats so I can weave again! I have an alpaca warp just waiting to be tied on! I may have to divide my interests and knit some and weave some! I haven't done any weaving since....Wednesday of LAST week! ...Maybe it was Friday....Whatever! Too long. :)

A trade!

I completely forgot! I made a trade with one of the glass guys from the Craft Center! Kevin (for those of you who know him) came up to me and asked about my felted hats. He said, "I'd love to get one of your hats. I have been meaning to get a new hat, but I keep forgetting. The only thing is...I only have checks...Or we could do a trade?" YES! I love trading! :) He got this hat:

I love making trades at craft shows! It's even MORE fun when it's with someone you know. :) I suppose I need to get back to working on....something...but I don't really know what. I get to buy more yarn for berets later today! Woo!!
